Steve joined the Firm in an Of Counsel
capacity in August 2007 after retiring from Chrysler LLC. He will spearhead the firm’s pro bono group,
including helping various individuals and nonprofit groups collect unclaimed
property from the various state coffers.
Steve’s professional background is, not surprisingly, firmly rooted in automotive manufacturing. He joined Chrysler in 1972 as a mechanically engineer. Steve worked as a heat rejection engineer, a wind tunnel engineer and a cooling systems engineer for Chrysler during the next decade. While working at Chrysler, Steve worked to put himself through law school.
After a brief stint as outside counsel, Steve found himself back at Chrysler in May 1984 as an in-house attorney in the product liability department. Over the course of the next 20 + years, while his job duties sometimes changed, Steve remained at his first post-graduation employer through his retirement in July 2007. While at Chrysler, Steve managed product liability files, warranty files, patent infringement cases, drafted and negotiated supplier contracts, and served as General Counsel to USCAR’s Vehicle Recycling Partnership.
During the latter days of his
in-house career, Steve created, managed and led the Recovery Group for
Chrysler. During his tenure, Steve was
successful in helping drafting legislation in several states to insure that
automobile manufacturers are able to recoup sales and use tax from states after
repurchasing a vehicle pursuant to the various state lemon laws. He further led and managed the litigation
efforts of the company, overseeing the National Sales Tax Litigation.
Today, in addition to overseeing
the Firm’s pro bono efforts, Steve has re-teamed with his former colleague and
ELG attorney Maggie Mason Erskine.
Together, they are administering the National Sales Tax Recovery efforts
of a major manufacturer.
